Editing Process - Types of Paper - Mounting & Matting - Framing
We currently use a wide range of software for our photo editing, retouching, and printing. We use Adobe Lightroom 3 to import, organize and roughly edit in terms of brightness, contrast and cropping every photo. Lightroom is a non-destructive program which means it edits the preview of the image and renders the changes for the preview without altering the original file in any way. From Lightroom we export photos to Photoshop CS4. Here we apply our final edits for color, sharpness, and noise and picture size.
We use a number of other software programs in our digital workroom:
Noise Ninja Pro – This is a very effective and productive solution for removing noise and grain from digital photographs and scanned file images. It’s a must have tool for anyone shooting in low-light or fast-action situations where high ISO photography is required and the resulting noise compromises the image.
Alien Skin Blow Up 2 – This is a Photoshop plug-in that produces enlargements dramatically sharper than any software we’ve found.
PTGUI – This is for professional quality photo stitching – Turning any series of overlapping photos into a gorgeous panoramic image quickly and easily.
Portrait Professional Max – Portrait airbrushing software touches up and enhances people in the same way that good lighting and perfect makeup is used to make someone look more attractive. We only use this if requested by the customer.
Photomatrix Pro 3 – This stand-alone program creates and processes HDR (High Dynamic Range) images. Usually when you photograph a high contrast scene, you will typically have blown out highlights and flat shadows. We can now make multiple exposures of the same photo at different camera settings and blend them together to capture most highlights and shadows.
After we are done with our edits we save our finished masterpiece. It's now ready to print. Our fine art photography prints are created on Canon's Image Prograf IPF 9100, (60 inch) 12 color Inkjet Printer. The IPF 9100 Printers, are specially formatted to reduce graininess and bronzing and resist scratching and fading. It is equipped with a unique pallet of 12 colors to deliver a broader gamut for greater tonal range and more precise color reproduction. This dog can hunt!
